About Patrick Kurtz

Patrick Kurtz is a private investigator, criminologist, author, editor, and publisher. He grew up in Thuringia and now lives alternately with his wife, Dr. Maya Grünschloß, and their two children, Ian and Enlil, in Leipzig, Barcelona (Spain), and on the Isle of Skye (Scotland).

A native “Römer” and grandson of the Central German local historian Hilmar Römer, Patrick Kurtz studied Provincial Roman Archaeology, Psychology, Comparative Literature, and German Studies at the universities of Oxford, Leipzig, Marburg, and Hagen. In addition to editing Aidan Johnstone’s memoirs under the title Livingstone’s Mahnung, he published the scholarly volume Of Ovid, Grass and Tintagel Castle – Scholarly and Essayistic Excurses into European Literature in 2012.

Kurtz has also pursued studies in various fields, including prehistory, religion and mythology, the origins and nature of the universe, life (with a focus on biochemistry and DNA), and consciousness, as well as philosophy, police violence, climate change, and democracy, demagoguery, and disinformation in the 21st century. His curiosity extends beyond mainstream science to alternative perspectives, and he maintains an open view beyond the Western academic framework. His other interests and passions include music (he is a multi-instrumentalist), Rishi Yoga, scuba diving (PADI-certified), and various forms of physical training.

Driven by a natural inclination toward combination, deduction, and analysis, Patrick Kurtz completed private investigator training in 2012/13 and has since been working as a certified professional detective (IHK). His investigative and academic focus lies in criminology, particularly in applying human ethological principles.

Additional qualifications in investigation and security include: IHK proficiency certification under §34a GewO, Firearms proficiency certification under §7 WaffG, Certification in life-saving emergency procedures and defibrillator operation, Intervention force (VdS) qualification, Elevator operator certification under TRBS 3121.

Language skills: German, English, and Spanish (fluent), as well as basic to intermediate knowledge of Italian, French, Catalan, and Greek. He also holds a Latinum and is familiar with the Hebrew alphabet.

Patrick Kurtz is regularly consulted by television, radio, and print media, as well as other institutions, including the University of Potsdam (as a research consultant) and numerous outlets such as Sat.1, RTL, ZDF, BBC Worldwide, WDR Radio, Galileo (ProSieben), Klett-Cotta Publishing, Berliner Tagesspiegel, "Die Wirtschaft Köln", Weser-Kurier, Merkurist Frankfurt, Offenbach-Post, Antenne Münster, BILD, MDR TV, MDR Radio, NDR TV, Spiegel, VICE Magazine, Blick, Watson (Switzerland), Star FM Berlin, Radio NPR Berlin, Radio Wuppertal, Leipziger Volkszeitung, Dresdner Morgenpost, Sächsische Zeitung or Mitteldeutsche Zeitung, and many more.
